Getting the Most from the POTR Art Showcase

One of the many great things about living at the Phoenix is that our building is adorned in artwork much like the "hippest" galleries and museums. It also changes so we can look forward to discovering a new artist or artwork that moves us. I've tried to take time to walk the halls whenever new artwork was installed, but I often forgot and missed a lot of it. When the latest change was announced, I decided it would be great to remember past artwork by archiving it in a form that everyone in the building could enjoy. Armed with a camera one afternoon, I took photos of the Fall 2015 exhibit before it was gone (you will see my reflection immortalized in some of them). The Art Committee embraced the idea and so began this website.

One of the things I have learned is that the Art Committee manages a very modest Art Fund to maintain the relationship with MCAD and for purchases. Residents can contribute to the Permanent Collection by donating individually or collectively. The Art Committee has a Donated Art Program which you can learn more about here. Artwork from both MCAD and other sources are welcomed.

For the most part, using the site is self-explanatory, but there are a few tips that you should know about as you browse the "galleries".

There are 3 collection types. The current MCAD, Photography Club and Permanent Collection exhibits are featured on the home page. Past MCAD and Photography Club exhibits are archived under the Collections navigation menu. The number is the item count in the collection.

Exhibits are displayed on a "wall". Click on any image and it will maximize to full screen display.

  • If your cursor is on the image, the title, artist and location will display. Artist names link to their websites.
  • Moving your cursor to the sides will hide them.
  • There are navigation arrows on each side to scroll through the rest of the gallery.
  • Click on the 'X' in the upper right hand will return you to the "wall" display.

The Blog will have articles related to art in the building, neighborhood and MCAD. You can sign up for email notification whenever new articles are posted so you will not miss them.

Check out the Artists information page and link to their websites where you may find biographical information as well as their works, exhibitions and contact. Click on the item count to see artwork that has been on display at the Phoenix.

Click on the magnifying glass to search on title, artist, medium or location. If you have a favorite artist, you can find everything they have exhibited.

I'm confident that everyone will find something interesting. To help make it even better, feel free to provide feedback whether it is a "bug" or ideas for future iterations.

Happy browsing!
