The Phoenix has acquired a new pastel, “Red Flyer” by Stephanie Molstre-Kotz as part of our permanent collection. Stephanie is a graduate of MCAD and some her works are displayed at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital, IDS financial Services, and the University of Wisconsin. “Red Flyer” is currently hanging in the Main street elevator lobby and had been included in a previous MCAD rotation.
Stephanie says the following about the piece.
"Red Flyer" was a direct influence from Joseph Turner, an English Romanticist landscape painter. I've been a life-long fan of his work and often use certain aspects of his sense of space in landscapes. I also love how the desire to fly brought so much invention before the first airplane took off the ground. The flying machines at that time are beautiful - even though taking off the ground was futile. I liked to give them a chance to actually fly in my images.
